Fibreglass Roofing Construction
When constructing GRP fibreglass roofing, we use a product called fibrecoat. This is extremely versatile and ideal for all flat roof types, sizes and specifications. It has a life expectancy of over 25 years and can be used for new roofs or as a replacement felt roof alternative.
Other fibreglass and GRP roofing systems generally have a flexibility rating of between 1% and 3%. However, fibrecoat is amazingly flexible with a rating of 25%. This means that the material is able to resist changes of shape without cracking. Due to this flexibility, Fibrecoat is less likely to break and more likely to last longer than traditional fibreglass roofing products.
Another important point is that not all fibreglass roofing systems are fire rated and it’s something that is very important to get right. Particularly because there are insurers who may penalise property owners for using an unrated fibreglass product. Fibrecoat is fire retardant to BS 476 Part 3 EXT F AA and EN 1187 B Roof (t4). It complies with all current UK building regulations when applied in accordance with application guidelines.
Fibrecoat Fibreglass Roofing System
Our Fibrecoat Fibreglass Roofing system also has another benefit over traditional fibreglass roofing systems. It is able to bond to virtually any surface and therefore can be used as an overlay system for roofs in need of replacement.
Fibrecoat is able to cover services like asphalt, concrete, brick, felt and slate. Other materials like lead, metal, aluminium and asbestos can be overlaid using a fibrecoat PU or epoxy based primer.
Another plus point of our fibrecoat roofing system is that it does not require any activators or catalysts in order to work. The system cured naturally with the atmosphere and the product becomes watertight in around 30 minutes. This makes it a much safer product and more environmentally friendly than traditional systems.
Ultra Violet Rays are a problem with traditional fibreglass roofing systems. They can cause the product to become brittle and therefore shortens its useful life. However, Fibrecoat’s finishing layer fully encapsulates the roof and protects the whole area with a UV resistant barrier that will not embrittle.
A seamless finish is provided by fibrecoat to form a 100% waterproof coating with no joints or seams, therefore eliminating points of access for water to seep through. Additionally, the system has no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) present therefore rendering it virtually odourless and at the same time making the product safer to use while reducing its environmental impact.
Quality is guaranteed as standard: Fibrecoat is backed with a 20 year materials guarantee, providing it is installed by an approved contract such as the fibreglass specialist.
The Fibrecoat advanced fibreglass roofing system is available in 6 standard colours. These have been selected to blend in with existing natural stone, brick, and slate.
